She/Her
Hello! Here is a little bit about me as a therapist:
I know that starting over takes courage - as someone born and raised in Mumbai, I practiced as a psychologist in India for four years before moving to Melbourne and beginning again myself; as a student, as a migrant, as a woman of colour finding my footing in a new city, new culture, new everything. These experiences inform my practice as a social worker and therapist.
I work with people navigating anxiety, grief, depression, and the big life changes that arrive whether we're ready for them or not, loss, migration, career shifts and so many others. Whilst none of these are things to change, they are things for us to work through together.
My practice is person-centred, strengths-based, trauma-focused and culturally responsive, drawing on narrative therapy alongside training in therapeutic play, REBT and EMDR. What matters most to me is that people feel seen as whole people, and that the work honours where you come from as much as where you’re going.
Interest areas:
Young people
Anxiety
Grief
Body image
Life transitions, including the experience of migration and cultural identity
Outside of work, I swim, read thrillers at an alarming pace, and bake (I ran a small baking business back home, so expectations are high and usually met!) I spend a lot of time with the close friends who have become family here in Melbourne, and I am unreasonably competitive about board games!
Arya is welcoming new participants on Mondays, either in-person at our practice in Footscray, or online.
