Emma (she/her) is a counsellor of Dutch-Indonesian (Indo) and Dutch heritage. Born in the Netherlands and raised largely in Australia, she has lived and worked between both countries throughout different stages of her life. These experiences have shaped her understanding of migration, cultural identity, belonging, and the ways colonial histories and broader social systems can influence people’s wellbeing, relationships, and access to care.
A recent graduate of a Master of Counselling, Emma joins the Iceberg Manaya Pride Program offering collaborative support through an intersectional and trauma-informed lens. She aims to create a therapeutic space that feels warm, collaborative, culturally responsive, and affirming for queer, culturally diverse, and neurodivergent communities.
Emma draws from an integrative counselling approach, including person-centred therapy, attachment-based approaches, mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Narrative Therapy. She also values reflective therapeutic work that supports people to gently explore recurring patterns, emotions, relationships, and the experiences that may sit beneath them, while recognising the broader relational, cultural, and systemic contexts that shape people’s lives and wellbeing.
She has particular interest in supporting people navigating:
trauma and intergenerational trauma
migration and belonging
identity exploration
grief and life transitions
relationship and interpersonal difficulties
queer and gender-diverse experiences
anxiety, self-worth, and emotional overwhelm
