Finn Napthine

They/She

Low Cost Counselling Clinic Counsellor [Student]

Finn supports folks on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin nation.

A bit about me:

My name Finn, I use they/she pronouns and identify as queer. I believe in finding joy and building community and love spending my free time knitting, dancing and going bush. I am  a masters of counselling student, starting my first placement at The Iceberg Foundation. I am a 3rd generation white settler, living on the unceded lands of the Wurunderji people.

Work experience:

I have 7 years of work experience in the family violence and homelessness sectors, where I practice client centred and trauma informed care and worked to understand the effects of colonisation, oppression and marginalisation on people's experiences. I have worked in both crisis based services and longer term programs, and have a strong knowledge of the community service system in Victoria.

Therapeutic support:

Moving into the counselling space I aim to use an abolitionist, disability justice, de-colonial and intersectional lens.

Through my degree I have studied different counselling modalities including Person Centred Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapies and Mindfulness practices. I have my own lived experience of mental health, chronic illness and have accessed different forms of therapy including: EMDR, art therapy, somatic therapy, sex therapy and talk based therapy. I am hoping that through my own experiences of mental health, I am able to offer better connection and understanding in our work together.

I aim to work with people's own strengths and expertise to improve wellbeing outcomes, and hope to offer a therapeutic space that is collaborative, open and tender
